Christian Schmit

Christian Schmit is a sculptor creating scenes that depict the mysterious and at times, obsessive behavior of unseen characters. His dioramas grant the viewer a glimpse into private spaces, the kind of spaces occupied by obsessive types of people who spend their time building things without the thought of sharing their work with others.
Relating to a character who work endlessly to build their magnum opus in their basement, whether writing a novel, constructing a railroad scene, writing music, Schmit’s work engages his own methodical behaviors as he sits at his table, night after night gluing cardboard and paper, constructing a model of a model.
Christian Schmit is a graduate of Art Academy of Cincinnati where he currently teaches.
He also instructs at the University of Cincinnati.
